VeriTAS has multiple components:
*Correlation of Active (TAS) & Passive (ADS-B) targets
*Predictive collision avoidance logic
*Permits multiple alerts - Reinforced alerts and 2nd alerts
*Eliminates alerts while on ground or of ground targets while approaching airport

Correlation of Active (TAS) & Passive (ADS-B) targets
Avidyne?s VeriTAS is a hybrid traffic avoidance solution that merges both active traffic (Avidyne TAS600 Series) and ADS-B traffic into one system.
VeriTAS constantly compares the active traffic target information with ADS-B traffic information to ensure the pilot has most accurate traffic information and alerting. Because of the latency issues associated with both TIS-B and ADS-R traffic information (where it?s available), VeriTAS will use TIS-B and ADS-R to reinforce the accuracy of the active traffic targets.
The TAS-A with VeriTAS will not only be more accurate than TCAS systems, but it will also be more accurate than the FAA?s secondary surveillance radar systems.

Predictive collision avoidance logic
The increased accuracy of the TAS-A using ADS-B allows VeriTAS to virtually eliminate all nuisance alerts to the pilot using predictive collision avoidance logic.
VeriTAS not only predicts where the target aircraft will be in time, but it also takes into account maneuvering of the target aircraft. It then compares that information to where the host aircraft will be in time and how it is maneuvering to provide nuisance free traffic alerts.
VeriTAS uses two airspace zones called Protective Airspace Zone (PAZ) and Collision Airspace Zone (CAZ) to provide the collision alerting.

CAZ ? Collision Airspace Zone
The VeriTAS CAZ features a fixed ?hockey puck? around the host aircraft. This airspace is smaller for ADS-B than with TAS, allowing for tighter tolerances, thus eliminating nuisance alerts.

PAZ ? Protected Airspace Zone
The VeriTAS PAZ features a dynamic alerting zone. PAZ uses all available data including GPS position, Range, Bearing, Velocity, Heading, climb/descent rate for dynamically-computed horizontal & vertical airspace alerting threshold. VeriTAS will compare the PAZ from the host aircraft with the PAZ from the target aircraft to predict collision alerts.

Permits multiple alerts - Reinforced alerts and 2nd alerts
The Avidyne TAS600 Series Traffic System audible heads up alerting will only provide one alert. In comparison, VeriTAS will provide a second alert to the pilot. The extra protection of the second alert along with the elimination of nuisance alerts means that the pilot needs to take immediate action.

Eliminates alerts while on ground or of ground targets while approaching airport
The TAS-A series with VeriTAS not only knows when the host aircraft is on the ground, it can also detect when threat aircraft are on the ground. This helps to eliminate alerts during the most critical phases of flight, departure and arrival. ADS-B targets broadcast whether or not they are in flight. VeriTAS will the use this information to properly identify threat aircraft and reduce nuisance alerts.
