The COSA-based ICS system developed and deployed on the C-17A Globemaster is a highly Integrated Radio Management System providing full ICS capabilities as well as Radio Suite Management all in one system. The COSA technology (derived from our TCOMSS and DCMS heritage) is built upon an VME bus architecture. The Communications Control Unit (CCU) provides eight (8) user and forty (40) Radio interfaces as well as both MIL-STD-1553 Remote Terminal and Bus Controller capabilities, AGC/VOX, Central Aural Warning System and extensive Backup/Redundant capabilities. Crew Access Panels include a Multi button/display unit providing full radio situational awareness and a Radio/Navigation control unit containing a 4x5 inch. programmable LCD display interfaced directly to the CCU. The CCU also contains a spare operating slot and the COSA supports the addition of our VME based VNIC card to support numerous added functionality similar to the SDI system.
