The 787 Pilot Control System is a highly modularized design that features low weight, reduced envelope, easy aircraft installation and maintenance. The pilot control system consists of the wheel column assembly for pitch and roll commands, the rudder brake assembly for yaw and brake commands and the control stand. Housed within the control stand are the thrust control, flap lever, speedbrake alternate flap, and parking brake modules.

Key Features & Benefits
*Provides pilot/first officer commands to the aircraft flight-control system: Using the control column, wheel and rudder pedals, the pilot is able to give inputs into the aircraft?s flight-control system.
*Provides artificial feel feedback: The system generates the feel of the aircraft, which the pilot feels in control column, wheel and rudder pedals.
*Mechanical linkage between the pilot and first officer station: The pilot and copilot systems are mechanically linked to provide improved situational awareness and added redundancy.
*Secondary and high-lift pilot controls: Additional modules allow the flight crew to manually operate the high lift and speedbrake control surfaces.
*Autopilot backdrive function: While in autopilot, the wheel, column and rudder pedals are back driven to further improve crew situational awareness.
*Bank angle protection and stick shakers: As the aircraft reaches its flight envelope limits, the system provides tactile cues to the crew via control wheel forces and vibrations.
*Jam protection (override/breakout): To prevent single point failures due to jams, the system is cross-link connected via override/breakout connectors.
*Engine control sensors and auto-throttle backdrive function: Engine power settings are manually modulated via the throttle, which also is back driven while in auto-throttle for additional situational awareness.
